Chris is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals and a Principal Investigator in the Translational & Clinical Research Institute at Newcastle University. He has a specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and his research focuses on the intestinal immune system, how this maintains health or can drive inflammation, and how our immune system interacts with, and is shaped by gut microbiota (bacteria, viruses, and fungi). A previous Wellcome Trust Clinical Fellow in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics and an NIHR Clinical Lecturer, Chris is now the Chief Investigator for the national IBD-RESPONSE and CD-metaRESPONSE studies funded by the Medical Research Council and Helmsley Charitable Trust which aim to use machine learning to develop a predict model of response to immune modifying therapy in IBD based on gut microbiome and metabonomic data. Chris is the lead author of the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines for the management of IBD and is the Secretary of the inflammatory bowel disease section of the British Society of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Parkes trained at Cambridge University and Bart’s & the London and was awarded a PhD at King’s College London. He now works as the Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. His interests include clinical trials in IBD, the role of the microbiota and probiotics and the use of technology in IBD OPD. Gareth has sat on the British Society of Gastroenterology IBD committee, has a range of publications in the field of IBD, GI microbiota and IBS. He is the co-founder and Medical Director of Ampersand Health which has developed the award-winning mobile application MyIBD Care utilizing digital technology and behavioural science to improve the lives of patients with IBD as well as developing platforms in other Immune Mediated Inflammatory Diseases.

Tim Raine is the clinical lead of the IBD service at Cambridge University Hospitals, UK. Tim is the chair of the ECCO (European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation) guidelines committee and is a lead author on several ECCO guidelines. He leads the lower GI section of the UEG Scientific committee. Tim sits on the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) IBD Clinical Research Group and is chief investigator of several clinical trials. He is an honorary faculty member of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Centre, UK. His research, funded by the Wellcome Trust, CCFA, Crohn’s and Colitis UK, OpenTargets and the National Institute for Health Research, focuses on regulation of the gastrointestinal immune system

Laura is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (Wythenshawe). She graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London and my surgical training was undertaken in London, Oxford, and the Northwest. This was followed by a National ALSGBI/RCS Eng Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship in Leeds in 2015. Laura’s clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, proctology, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery. She’s the surgical lead for inflammatory bowel disease in the Trust. Her research interests include clinical and scientific research in a wide range of colorectal disorders including inflammatory bowel disease. Laura was a Royal College of Surgeons Research Fellow in Oxford in 2004 and was awarded a post-graduate research degree (MD) for investigating the clinical and genetic characteristics of Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis. She was the Pathological Society Surgical Travelling Fellow to Toronto in 2006 and is currently the Principal Investigator for several studies including the NIHR IBD BioResource. Laura is Chair of the ACPGBI Education and Training Committee and an elected serving member of the IBD Subcommittee.

Gareth is an IBD consultant / clinician scientist working in Edinburgh on the immunology & epidemiology of IBD.
His research has shown that Scotland has amongst the highest rates of IBD in the world and will affect 1% of the population within 10 years.
He is also interested in the effects of early treatment on IBD severity and has recently shown that IBD admission rates over time are falling, paralleled by earlier use of treatment.
He has also shown that innate immune cells such as macrophages play a critical role in how gut inflammation develops and is currently exploring how different types of macrophages could be targeted to treat IBD.

Clinical interests:
Inflammatory bowel disease. I have been involved with and presented projects at both a national and international level. Very keen on highlighting inequalities in minority groups in healthcare including a recent article titled “Complexities of race and health” published in the Royal College of physicians. Improving health outcomes for minority groups and encouraging those from ethnically diverse groups into clinic research.

Aamir is an IBD Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London and St Mark’s Hospital. He has been undertaking a PhD since September 2020, having completed ST6 training in Kent, Surrey and Sussex deanery. His interest in IBD developed through his specialty training in Kent and his main work now relates to precision medicine in IBD, particularly focussed on treatment resistance. He is using a translational research approach to explore the molecular mechanisms underpinning this, involving colonic organoid models, bioinformatic analyses of large transcriptomic datasets and development of a multicentre cohort of patients with pre-treatment multiomic phenotyping (THAMES-IBD study). He has contributed significantly to IBD research during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the CLARITY, PREPARE-IBD and VIP studies, and he is co-national BSG / NIHR Gastroenterology Trainee Representative.

Ajay is a Consultant Gastroenterologist working in Kettering, Northamptonshire, appointed in 2015. He has specialist interests in IBD, early colorectal cancer, endoscopy (including ERCP), and clinical research. Ajay is one of the hospital’s Chief Clinical Information Officers (CCIO), and the endoscopy training lead.
In 2019, Ajay was appointed Gastroenterology specialty lead for NIHR CRN East Midlands and in 2020 was appointed as the research Director at Kettering General Hospital. He is the chief investigator for the CRUK funded COLOPREVENT study, and the BRACE-1 study.
Ajay is chair of the British Society of Gastroenterology’s colorectal section and member of the endoscopy clinical research group. He is an elected councillor at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), having previously served as chair of the New Consultants Committee. He is also a member of the Midlands Gastroenterological Society executive committee.
Away from work Ajay enjoys spending time with family, his wife Vini is an Interventional GI Radiologist, his son Luca is 8, his daughter Bella is 6. He is a sports fanatic – Football, Cricket, Tennis, American Football. He plays badminton to a reasonable standard (his assessment!).

Kevin has been a General Practitioner in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire since 2002. He has been a committee member of the Primary Care Society of Gastroenterology since 2017 and was Chair from 2018 to 2021. He was the RCGP and Crohn’s and Colitis UK Lead Clinical Champion for the 2017-2020 Inflammatory Bowel Disease Spotlight Project.

Professor Alan Lobo is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Professor of Gastroenterology at the Sheffield Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre. He has been responsible for a research programme in inflammatory bowel disease that has covered basic laboratory research including genomic and proteomic studies and understanding molecular epitopes on the infliximab molecule. He is the chief investigator for studies funded by the NIHR and CCUK on patient decision making and currently for the AWARE-IBD programme funded by The Health Foundation to explore how patients might be put at the centre of service redesign. He has led the development of guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and British Society of Gastroenterology.
Professor Lobo trained in medicine at Guy’s Hospital, London and undertook postgraduate training posts In Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds and Bristol before his appointment in Sheffield in 1994.

Dr Christian Selinger, MD MSc FRCP Edin, is a Consultant Gastroenterologist, practising in Leeds. Christian achieved advanced training in Inflammatory Bowel Disease during his fellowship in Sydney, Australia. In 2011 Christian was awarded an MSc with distinction in Gastroenterology from the University of Salford. His research into Inflammatory Bowel Disease led to the award of an MD from the University of Manchester in 2013.

Dr Selinger provides the full breadth of gastrointestinal medicine with a special focus on inflammatory bowel disease. He has received a SAGE award for establishing the first joint IBD obstetric clinic. A further focus of his work lies in quality improvement in IBD, and he has led a national initiative driving safety and quality through assessment of steroid use. Dr Selinger is widely published with over 130 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and over 100 conference presentations. His research expertise lies within inflammatory bowel disease with a focus on pregnancy, patient knowledge and views, and medication adherence.

Stephen Boyle is a Consultant Gastroenterologist working in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2011 and completed Gastroenterology Training in Northern Ireland. His special interests include inflammatory bowel disease, ambulatory care, and therapeutic endoscopy. He is a keen endoscopy trainer and is involved in clinical research within his trust.
